Timetabler team to the rescue!
Recently the University of the West of Scotland’s (UWS) revolutionary new Lanarkshire campus suffered from an enormous water main burst that rendered an entire building, containing 30 classrooms, completely without electricity.
The campus was saved from major disruption and possible closure, thanks to the timetabling teams’ tireless efforts, quick-thinking and proactive approach. Relying heavily on CELCAT software and the staff’s understanding of flexible space utilisation, the team at the Lanarkshire campus prevailed by creating daily agile timetables that accommodated all lessons while repairs were underway.
UWS use a combination of CELCAT solutions, yet it was the core timetabling Adviser function that proved invaluable for the task at hand. Communication channels were crystal clear during this incident, with regular updates on social media and the UWS website itself.
“Through use of CELCAT and understanding the ethos that every space can be a teaching space, we managed to keep the campus open for three days with minimal disruption - although we lacked 30 classrooms and all the associated tech and expectations with that.”
- Greg Sheridan, Central Timetabling Project Manager, UWS
UWS managed this unfortunate incident professionally and proficiently. Their timetabling team deserve the biggest praise for all their efforts.
