Scotland’s Universities 2014 Conference
Ian Grimes and Irshad Khan from CELCAT attended the small but highly focussed one day "Scotland's Universities 2014" Conference at Our Dynamic Earth Edinburgh on 19th November.
The conference was centred on the next steps for Scotland's Higher Education sector following the independence referendum in September and the promise of greater devolution for the country from the UK Government following a "no" (to independence) vote.
With Scotland's universities performing well in the rankings and having some of the highest overseas student populations in the UK, CELCAT concentrated on widening awareness of the benefits recording and maintaining student attendance records can bring to organisations.
UKBA requirements stipulate that international students must show they are attending university and individual organisations have a great interest in improving the student experience. So capturing attendance data allows them to fulfil their legal obligations and spot poor attendance early, allowing pastoral measures to be implemented for students in danger of dropping out or ones taking mismatched modules.
A wide mix of delegates visited the CELCAT stand from education consultants to university managers and lecturers. Useful feedback was supplied by some existing CELCAT Timetabler users on their experience with our products in an open and informal setting. An interesting and informative day was enjoyed by those attending.
